A to B
A to B is a series of performance, installation, and video works by Iman Tajik that critically examine the concept of borders and the human desire for freedom of movement. The series begins with a site-specific performance where the artist navigates a web of white tape barriers in a natural landscape, symbolizing the invisible and often arbitrary divisions that restrict personal and collective mobility. This act challenges the viewer to reconsider the constructed nature of borders and their impact on human lives.
The subsequent iterations, A to B: II and A to B: III, build upon this foundation. In these works, the artist engages with the barriers by tearing them down, introducing a reparatory and cathartic layer to the performance. This gesture not only disrupts the imposed divisions but also invites reflection on the contemporary criticism of systems that restrict the free movement of individuals.
Presented as 10-minute looped videos, each piece captures the artist's interaction with the barriers, emphasizing the repetitive nature of the act and its symbolic significance. Through this series, Tajik transforms minimal gestures into a profound commentary on freedom, agency, and the human aspiration to move, connect, and belong.
